Just because it looks similar in configuration doesn't mean it would perform the same.........
Though I think an F-35 with the F-16XLs wing could work quite well if the F135 engine was ditched for an F119 for supercruise capability, greatly increased fuel and external weapons capacity, despite the loss in thrust to weight ratio. "Stealthifying" it by making it by angling and straightening parts of the wing would still probably effect the efficiency of the XL's wing. It was designed with aerodynamics in mind, not stealth, and messing with those gorgeous aerodynamics (it really is an excellent piece of aeronautical engineering) could substantially reduce the performance of the wing in certain aspects. If it is going to carry external weapons most of the time, then RCS be damned anyways, so why compromise efficiency of the wing at that point?
