NBC Equipment for Horses

I knew that during WWI gas masks were provided for horses, but these two shots from the 'Bravura' ending of Trinity and Beyond, show at what looks like NBC equipment for horses based on the Soviet NBC equipment China was using at the time (1964).

Is this something the Chinese came up with themselves or is it derived from Soviet hardware?
