President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that Ukraine had received sophisticated air defence systems from the United States.

It was the first acknowledgment that Ukrainehad received the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), long sought by Kyiv and whose shipment was approved by Washington late last month.

WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The United States will not start delivering sophisticated NASAMS air defenses to Ukraine for another two months or so, the Pentagon said on Tuesday, disputing reports suggesting Ukraine had already received them.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had been misquoted over the weekend in an English-language television interview transcript suggesting the weapons systems have been delivered.

CBS News' "Face the Nation" corrected the transcript, acknowledging a translation error, and the Pentagon tried to set the record straight about the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS).

So who's going to man and operate these Ukranian NASAMS?
It's not like you can train Ukrainian proficiently overnight on such a sophisticated system....

More supposedly non-combat trainers on the ground, methinks.

I haven't seen anything credible about NATO trainers inside Ukraine. Most of the training seems to be happening in Poland but some in other places as well. It's not hard to get in or out of Ukraine from the west right now.

And to answer the original question, this has clearly been in the works for a few months now. I expect Ukrainian personnel have been training for some time.

The UK will donate cutting edge air defence missiles to Ukraine which can help protect against Russian missile strikes, the Defence Secretary announced today.

The AMRAAM rockets, which will be provided in the coming weeks for use with the NASAMS air defence systems pledged by the US, are the first donated by the UK which are capable of shooting down cruise missiles.

Is this aspide 2000? Also if donating cold war era stuff is on the table, UK has rapier that is due to be phased out.

These should be the AIM-120C-5 that were to be replaced by Meteor and Amraam D-3. The D-3 should be under delivery at present.
There might also be some AIM-120B knocking about in the back of a depot as they were withdrawn a long time ago...but its doubtful. Think this could total (at most) 250 missiles if the B and C-5 are both available and all were sent. If the B are long since scrapped (which I suspect) it could be at most 150 C-5.

They're sending HAWK III and Aspide 2000.
WASHINGTON, Oct 25 (Reuters) - The United States is considering sending older HAWK air defense equipment from storage to Ukraine to help it defend against Russian drone and cruise missile attacks, two U.S. officials told Reuters.

The HAWK interceptor missiles would be an upgrade to the Stinger missile systems - a smaller, shorter range air defense system - that the United States has already sent to blunt Russia's invasion.

The Biden administration would use the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) to transfer the HAWK equipment which is based on Vietnam-era technology, but has been upgraded several times. The PDA allows the United States to transfer defense articles and services from stocks quickly without congressional approval in response to an emergency.

HAWK is already coming from another NATO country (Italy, see above), so adding more from the US could make sense, if only to replenish missile stocks.

It's quite a bit more spacious for the operators, I'll give you that (2 people in almost the same space where 3 must be essentially rubbing shoulders in the S-400). Other than that, the individual consoles are actually remarkably similar in lay-out though.

NASAMS control panel and C300 control panel.

1981 (S-300PT) vs. 2019 (NASAMS 3). What do you expect? How about 2006 (NASAMS 2) vs. 2007 (S-400)?

NASAMS HMI still looks better.
Eighter way.. i would draw focus on the Search radar unit, instead of measuring #¤ck inside the Command Wagon..

Ukraine has received its first delivery of the long-awaited National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), a major weapon meant to boost Kyiv in its nearly nine-month war with Moscow.

Kongsberg/Raytheon need to adopt and integrate the Enduring Shield launcher into the system. This will allow the ability to dial interceptors ranging from HF/JAGM all the way up to the AMRAAM-ER, and boost the overall magazine size. Not to mention that if they also absorb the IFCN and IBCS EOCs or compatibility with the same they can increase launcher spacing from 25 km to 100+ km.

A side-by-side comparison of the missile seen in the Ukrainian Air Force video released this past weekend (at left) and an older one that clearly shows an AIM-120 (at right). Ukrainian Air Force capture
