OK, walk me through this slowly. Why would anyone waste 2400 hp engines on a Ki-49? It's like putting them on a Wellington or He 111.

Hi airman! How about your opinion?

Ki-49-IIISix prototypes fitted with two 1,805 kW (2,420 hp) Nakajima Ha-117 engines.(only information about Ki-49 III )
oohh found an article :
http://japaneseaircraft.devhub.com/blog/633223-nakajima-ki-49-donryu/Probably installation of Ha-117 had resulted in new troubles

About Ha-117 engines on Welligton or He-111 :eek:f series " what if" ..... :D
I suppose the problems was also about Ha-117 similars to Homare for for low-temperature treatment compared with american engines !

590 km/h during test flight ?!
Well, i haven't understood what the meaning of "teething troubles" mentioned on article on devhub , probably Ha-117 engines had needed to be improved !

New topic split from the old "Japanes Projects before 1945" thread...

Hi again Blackkite,

What source is the Ki-49-III's performance from? Very curious plane to reach that speed.

The headline speak about the Ki.58, but in the thread is no information about the type...
