Hello all,
This mystery has permeated the WW2 tank community for some time, especially those who meticulously archive tank blueprints, documentation, and photographs for Warthunder (e.g. Seon Eun-Ae aka Mai_Waffentrager). The first photo is the original and where the mystery started. The subject in the immediate foreground is the only known photo of the Type 98 Chi-Ho, a Japanese medium tank that developed from the Type 97 Chi-Ha. The mystery is the tank to the far right of the photo, which I cropped in the second image. Nobody seems to know what it is, although theories abound. I thought I would bring the discussion here and see what everyone thinks. I personally think it could be a Japanese export of a Škoda tank like the Š-I-D (e.g. the two other pictures I included), which is not entirely out of the realm of possibility given the Yugoslav and Iranian contracts; or likewise, Japan reverse-engineered the tank from plans provided by the Germans after the occupation of Czechoslovakia. Thoughts?
