F-24A Stats: Program start Oct 1999
Max weight 39,892lbs
Engine: modified GE F412-400= 13,000lbs thrust canceled A-12 engine
Fuel: 7,830lbs
Payload: 5,000lbs max: 2 2000lbs JDAM or Laser guided 2 AIM-120c
Empty Airframe weight: 24,000lbs
Radar: Raytheon AESA pre-APG-79 radar
EO system: Modified An/AAS-44c Multi Spectral Targeting System Contract: The advantages of super low observables and reduced visual signature once demonstrated by the Boeings Bird of Prey Technology demonstrator quickly led to a sole source development contract. It called for five full-scale development and fifteen production models of a single-seat, subsonic daylight attack aircraft to be officially designated F-24A. The aircraft is the airforces silver bullet strike force.

Those small, highly-swept wings don't seem like they'd be much good for subsonic maneuvering. The landing gear seem excessively small. Also, how is lateral stability achieved?

The contribution of sweepback to dihedral effect is important because of the nature of the contribution. In a sideslip the wing into the wind is operating with an effective decrease in sweepback while the wing out of the wind is operating with an effective increase in sweepback. The reader will recall that the swept wing is responsive only to the wind component that is perpendicular to the wing's leading edge. Consequently, if the wing is operating at a positive lift coefficient, the wing into the wind has an increase in lift, and the wing out of the wind has a decrease in lift. In this manner the swept back wing would contribute a positive dihedral effect and the swept forward wing would contribute a negative dihedral effect. The body also helps with stability. Boeing Phantom Ray has close to the same sweep. Also will have a fly by wire system and 2-D thrust vectoring nozzel. Just a hand drawing the landing gear is along the lines of the X32's. feel free to suggest changes. Maybe someone on this site could model the design using software. thanks

Thanks Motocar. I've come to the conclusion that the wings are two small. What would work is an x-45 style body and bird of prey fore body as pictured below. I've also renamed it F-118A. Dragon 029 did the photoshop.
