While browsing the web, I came across this aircraft which doesn't ring a bell. What's worse, the article itself doesn't even mention the name of either the type or the manufacturer, and I can't seem to find this allocation for the "77770" slot in civil registrations... Someone please help!

It's the Monsted-Vincent MV-1 Starflight.
Look here: http://www.myaviation.net/search/search.php?view=&regnr=N7770

I've forgotten to type one of the "7", but by my typing error I found it ;) .

AWESOME! Never expected to have such a quick answer on this one! Thanks!

I've searched the web and managed to find a little more on this rare bird thanks to you. Unfortunately it was wrecked by Hurricane Rita.

A light transport aircraft developed by American company Monsted-Vincent and built in Louisiana. This unusual aircraft, reduced in size resembles a strategic bomber B-36 was built in a single copy (registration number X77770) in early 1948 and the first flight took place on 1 October of 1948. It was equipped with four Continental C-85 engines driving pusher-propellers and could carry up to 6 passengers. The test results did not encouraged any potential customers and the aircraft was put in the Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum in the Patterson, Louisiana. In 1992, the museum was hit by hurricane Andrew and MV-1 was virtually destroyed. The aircraft was relocated to a storage hanger and in 2005 the hanger along with the aircraft was leveled by hurricane Rita. The museum has moved to a new location in Patterson.

Year Made: 1948
Number of Seats: 6
Engine Type: 4 x 85 hp Continental C-85 pusher
Wing Span: 48'5"
Plane Length: 34'6"

I have just found the 3-view drawing of MV-1 drawn by Leonard Wieczorek for "Model Airplane News" for April 1949 issue.

The guys from solidmodelmemories have accumulated quite impressive collection of references, some of them however seem just unusable to me (I am not the greatest fan of wood-block modelling).

Thanks a lot mattrix for this amazing link. Found some real gems there!

Neat aircraft, might have made a great little twin or even light reconnaissance or maritime patrol aircraft. Too bad that the prototype managed to survive all these years only to be destroyed in a hurricane. :(
