Molniya-400

Re: Molniya Lightning 400

Hi Everyone!

I found a fairly good basic three-view of this aircraft.

I'm not too clear as to whether this violates the author's copyright, so please remove this three-view if it does!!!

Thanks!!

Chuck

Hi,

I know that off topic, but instead to open a new one, does any one
hear about Molniya-5 (maybe Molniya-500) ?.

I've only ever heard of Molniya-1 (developed from the Tsyklop project), Molniya-100, Molniya-300, Molniya-400 and Molniya-1000 Gerakl (Heracles). I'm attaching a composite image I made of all those designs. Beside these, there was also the RADEM experimental aerospace system, a technological demonstrator for advanced launch systems.

Nice find my dear Dan,

and maybe my dears Flateric,Borovik and Ucon can provide us with addition
Infos or more designs for aircraft (not spacecraft).

Many thanks my dear Boxkite,

and there are also; Mercury-M,a cargo/passenger and excutive and
Vityaz heavy lift aircraft.

Cool! So Molniya-3 and -5 DID exist after all.
There was a Molniya Aist-2 display model shown in JAWA 1997/98 (p425), photographed by Paul Jackson.
I wonder if this may have been an NPO Molniya planned modification of the existing Aeroprogress T-411 "Aist-2" (23 examples of which were produced by MiG). For the record, Aeroprogress DID have a twin-engine T-411 project designated T-412, but it had tricycle gear.

I do not know about the Vityaz, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Mercury-M was just a version (perhaps military?) of the Aeroprogress (later Aviatekhnika) T-440 Mercuriy business twin.

Vityaz was to be powered by four Saturn AL-34(-1?), the world's first turboprop engine with a recuperator for recovering and reusing waste heat from combustion - ДРТД in Russian (see website above). I would like to know from our Russian forum members what this abbreviation stands for.

The engine was developed, but never went into production.
