Mk-22 Spitfire Flying Elevators?

I'm posting this question here because the Mk-22 Spitfire was an operational aircraft and the Early Aircraft Projects forum is for projects.

Referring to the attached photos, the Mk-22 had flying elevators? What is the story here? How did they develop those??

Certainly not full-on flying elevators. Pretty sure I've seen the feature on other WWII fighters (maybe I'll look around).

Ohhh--that's an optical/perspective illusion? The pivot point of rotation looks too far back though.

..due to the horn balanced elevator, I think.
