Mirage 4 - Une épée pour la France - by Hervé Beaumont

A glimmer of hope that will hopefully put an end to the outrageous prices for the Docavia volume at A... (and their antiquarian bookstore departments).

For this new edition (or new book?), expected price is 125€. New publication date: 19 September 2024.

752 pages..... geez that must be heavy. I have the previous edition.

I have to say that's too much. It looks like a fantastic book, but 4.5kg severely limits reading options. If I try to hold it up, my arms are going to get tired. If I try to rest it on my lap, it's eventually going to cause an ache. So I would need to lay it out on a table - and my desk is generally covered in other stuff. It would be a real pain to read this new edition. Therefore, no matter how good the content, I won't be buying it.

Why not considering a two volume edition when an author has such a volume of information?.
Quality books are both an experience made of contents and "edition characteristics" ( letter and image size, comfortable handling, paper type...)

If it had been two volumes at half the size each, even if the overall cost was higher, I would definitely have bought them both.

Is there any room for adding additional research as 'modules', publications in their own right and bought seperately?

Hervé Beaumont died of cancer on July 2, 2024. This will be his last book ever. He was an incredible man, a succesful entrepreneur, professor in one of the best business schools. Some respect might be appropriate here.
I'm so sad to know about that. DEP. My condolences to family and friends.

Has anyone been able to take a closer look at the book yet? Only very few pages are presented on the Internet, so it is not possible to form a comprehensive opinion. Since I ‘missed’ the Docavia edition from 2003 because of its then already high price of about 80 EUR (and its probably small print run), I'm toying with the idea of buying Herve's latest publication - despite the now even higher price* and its size as well as the resulting unwieldiness (I don't read aeroplane books in bed anyway and I'm not a native speaker either).

* I could delegate the purchase to my dear relatives just before Christmas, before I ‘bathe’ in ties, pyjamas and socks :D .
