I hope our Russian friends can help identify this project. Looks to me like a MiG-25 with VG. I've had this model for many years, but still don't know anything about it. благодарность!

If not two tails, it would look like Mikoyan's E-158-based E-155MP...future MiG-31
otherwise, my guess is that a model in a way of Soviet Military Power what-ifs - many depends of how it did went into your hands

There was a twin-tailed VG Ye-155R/Ye-158. This model looks like an attempt to create that by mating MiG-23 wings to a MiG-25. Notice how the wings have the FLOGGER's dogteeth!

It definitely isn't an original Mikoyan model, it looks very different to the "house style" of models. Cruder.

by any means, model seems no to be made using kitbashing process - too rough surface for plastic - I'd say wood used instead
color scheme used and mastercraft style are hardly match those used by MiG model shop

Looks like the USA's DIA model of the Soviet Union's MiG aircraft after one of the DIA's photo interpreter identified it as RAM-K. It was either a prototype or mockup spotted by the US's spysats.

The model appears to be made of both wood and resin parts. It's not even close to the quality of typical Russian desk models, but it came from Russia, along with other fighter desk models -- some Mikoyan, some Sukhoi and one Yakovlev. All except this one are easily identifiable.

What was the intend of these projects? Better short take-off and handling characteristics?

Can some one tell me if there is a follow on project to replace the Mig-31 since they may retire in 12 - 15 years after BM upgrade which is being undertaken now.

They form a good chunk of Russia Air Force AD fleet and no replacement will mean a big hole , are there any plans to replace Mig-31 interceptors in the long run ?

Info will be much appreciated.

At present there is no sense to develop a new interceptor as at MiG-31 there are no competitors, by modernization it is possible to support constantly its high level as early as years 20.

Well 20 Years is a long time unless the do a complete overhaul of the aircraft , but eventually they will have to do some thing to replace an interceptor with another interceptor or just loose the capability.

This might explain the 3-view drawing of the "Strela" . It was shown on the Military Channel that was doing a special on MiG aircraft. However, after watching the video - title "Wings of the Red Star - the Foxbat deception", I would like to correct my original statement. Both the MiG OKB and the Sukhoi OKB offered their own concepts for the requirement of what became the MiG-25, I now believe that this is the Sukhoi contender - high-mounted delta wing (no canards); twin engines - the R-15 - and a single vertical tail fin - it is one of those design features that both design bureaus offered wedge type air intakes. One of the persons in the image looks a lot like Pavel Sukhoi himself

E-158/Ye-158 is usually described as the tailless delta with the air intake above the fuselage, something like MiG 7.01

Nice find. Now we can guess, what it is. For example I still didn't see any visualization of the third MiG-31 proposal: izdelije 518-31.

I was looking for some MiG-31 and came across this old thread. I wonder if this swing-wing MiG-25 which clearly uses MiG-23 wings and horizontals and what look similar to F-16 verticals could be an iteration of the fictional MiG "Fearless", which Grumman, IIRC, conjured up in the early '70s. After all, it is a twin-engined VG and for the time, makes sense to "improve" the Foxbat.

If we are talking of resin, we surely are not talking of authentic old good in-house Soviet models. Use of resin here was zero.

May be Paralay can add on. Oh, I haven't seen this photo yet...

Apart from the above, does anyone have any MiG-31D images to share? I came across it while looking at SDI, Almaz, ASAT etc on Wikipedia and thought it could make for a fun "What If?" scale model build.

As I remember,there was two version of Ye-158MF,the first with straight wing,and the second
fitted with trapezoidal wing.
