Does any one know why the name of Mikhail Gurevich was dropped from the Mikoyan-and-Gurevich Design Bureau in 1970 becoming the Mikoyan Design Bureau? Does this also mean that Western aviation books that identify aircraft designed and manufactured after 1970 with the name Mikoyan-Gurevich are incorrect?

Re: Mikoyan

I don't know the exact reason, but the rename occurred after Mikoyan's death. Gurevich had retired from 6 years previously.

I believe that the Bureau was never officially named "Mikoyan and Gurevich", it was simply OKB 155. It was only with Mikoyan's death that it was renamed after Mikoyan. In deference to Mikoyan's express wishes, the MiG prefix was retained.
