An earlier thread discussed the McD Mach 6 and Mach 12 vehicles from the 1970s that Dr. Paul Czysz worked on. Here are the avionics, GNC, and instrumentation diagrams for the vehicles. The paper states that the avionics systems for both vehicles would be inherently the same. I would like to point out that this is public information in the public domain, and can be found on NTRS (a public repository) on this public paper. The title of the paper is "Hypersonic Research Facilities Study, Volume IV Part 1 Phase III Final Studies, Flight Research Facilities", downgraded to UNCLAS from CONF 12/31/1976, almost a half-century ago. Keep in mind this is a system design older than that of the Space Shuttle.

I really do not think that the avionics were the driving technology for realizing this type of vehicle, but thanks anyway.

Wow. If an avionics guy cannot talk avionics in his own specialty forum… Yes, I double checked, and it would appear that this would be the avionics forum. I am an avionics specialist seeking likeminded coneheads. If you’d like to talk aerostructures, TPS, or engines, there are other forums that don’t say AVIONICS.

Don't mind Martin. He's German.

Back on topic, I’m not seeing an astroinertial nav - I’m guessing the engineers didn’t feel it was necessary - obviously by this time we have satellites orbiting Earth. A couple of satellite systems aboard.

Also, no ADF, VHF, VOR/DME, or LORAN.
