Martian Thunderwell?

A thunderwell on Earth is a non-starter for several reasons. Mars has less gravity, much less atmosphere, and a massive dormant volcano that stands higher than most of that atmosphere. Robots capable of resource processing and manufacturing could excavate a borehole and reinforce the walls, place a nuke at the bottom, and then seal it with vaporizable material. I don't know of any useful payload that could survive such acceleration however.
 
There is already lots of interest and development in in-situ resource utilization, the intended locale is far from the biologically interesting parts of Mars, it would present an opportunity to conduct scientific research on Olympus Mons, and if we fuck it up we might make the thing erupt and convince the Andaman islanders their ancestors are displeased with their hostile ways
