G'day gents, I'm wondering if there's a forum topic on the U.S. Navy VFLAX fighter program? I've had a play with the Search box, but to no avail. Nor am I able to find anything on the general web
I found a reference to this U.S. Navy VFLAX in James P. Stevenson's The Pentagon Paradox: The Development of the F-18 [Hornet/i]

Going by the book this VFLAX was around 1974, when the U.S. Navy was struggling to buy enough F-14A Tomcat's

From the quote, it seems to have been a suggestion by Chuck Mayers ("Fighter Mafia") not a Navy program at all.

Yeah, I guess we reading it again Paul, you might be right, so probably went no further you think? :-[ :(

He was basically advocating a smaller VFAX with Sparrow capability removed. The Navy weren't interested in this (Sparrow was non-negotiable on VFAX and NACF).

Yeah, I guess your right Paul

I just thought that there might have been a low key request put out to one of the U.S. aviation industries.

Thanks mate!
