Hard to say. I'm not sure if this was an actual emergency, or just training. They had the RAF F-35Bs flying out of that airport during the exercise anyway. Possibly they decided to demonstrate an STO landing, which could be operationally useful even on shore (e.g., for landing on a damaged runway, or a stretch of roadway).
