There was an attempt to design an "X" configured Liberty engine. Does anyone know if this engine is the McCook Field engine built in 1918?

Yes. The same image appears in Bob Neal's book A Technical & Operational History of the Liberty Engine. Neal says the engine was running by 7 Dec 1918.

Thank you. I was looking for developments of the Aeromarine 24 cylinder AL-24 engine, which was configured in two "V" configurations sharing the same crankshaft. I thought that this might have been an earlier variation.
