The Japanese Type 91 diving AP shell had an AP cap like normal AP shells, but for only for large shells. Part of this cap was the cap head, intended to break off upon hittih the water, leaving a flat surface optimized for underwater trajectories.
For 203mm or lower, it only had the false cap (cap head). Also, for all calibers it had an abnormally long fuse time.
However, Japanese Cruiser of the Pacific War (and Navweaps) attest that for 203mm caliber, "There were true APC projectiles, designated as Type 91 Mod 1, but these were used only for armor penetration experiments and were not in service use."
Does anyone know more about these shells?

Edit: added drawings for Type 91 shell
