Boldening mine.Same here. I also never found any evidence that they actually did study a linear accelerator. On the other hand, the proposed launcher for HOPE was underpowered (even with six SRBs attached to it), as pointed out elsewhere in this thread. Making up for the shortfall, by using a linear accelerator to give the stack its first several hundred klicks of velocity, would exactly be the kind of stuff the Japanese engineers at the time would love to make a reality. It also fits the range of stuff that NASDA and NAL were studying at the time.
