Notwithstanding its ISBN etc, was this book ever really published? The other Pavel Kucera book about Aero, (1919-1999), published by Motomedia, can be found fairly easily but the only 'evidence' that this version was actually published is via Worldcat to say a copy exists in the Czech National Library. If you follow the links to the library itself they fizzle out before you can confirm that the book exists. I've heard Jakab books can be a bit difficult to get hold of - but this one is my all time hardest to find. Jakab replied when I emailed to ask about the length of the print run so as to gauge the secondhand market. They just said that there was no intention at present to make further copies and wouldn't say how many were produced. I think it is a fiction.

Hi,
this book by Pavel Kučera was actually published in 2020. I own one copy. Now the book is sold out and is not even available in Czech antique shops.

Sarastro…Thanks very much for the information. I thought it may have been a publishing story - for who knows what purpose? It’s interesting that your copy has the vignetted A300 and A200 pictures on the top row of the cover art where the more common marketing picture has them on the lower row. It makes me wonder whether there was more than one printing.. Whilst visiting Prague in March I managed to find 4 out of 5 titles that I wanted in the city of antvariats. This was the missing one. Kbely was still in closed season - I wondered whether the bookshop there had a copy as it doesn’t seem to be connected to the online catalogues - probably a faint hope. Whatever the story behind its scarcity, I imagine there will be a scramble when/if one ever reaches the secondhand market. The Bittner/NTM archives look fascinating - is anyone projecting a book that you know of?

Dear Gary,
yesterday, when I was looking for this book, I discovered a Czech e-shop that deals mainly with music, and there you can order this book. The delivery time is fourteen days. I can try to order it and then I would send it to you by mail.

Dear Sarastro,

That would be very kind on your part and I’d be delighted. I will obviously reimburse all costs before you mail it. Most Czech online suppliers seem to carry a ‘neni skladem’ type of announcement now rather than simply deleting the product. I saw it advertised via a Czech model shop on a 14 day lead time basis but it too was sold out. This makes me think that their supply is connected to an online wholesaler who in the end no longer has the product either... but it’s worth a try!

Dear Gary,
yes, it's worth a try. As you write, it's very likely that this book is sold out and I'll get an email back from that store saying they no longer have it...
PS: The book I ordered, tentative delivery date 11.10...

Dear Sarastro,

I managed to check the bookshop at Kbely at the weekend and drew another blank. The stock was mostly Svet kridel with no Jakabs in sight. Still, it was a very fine day and I spent about 5 hours there. My delusion that there would be a stockpile of Jakab 38s in the Aero hangar was shattered. Picked up a Jakab in town but nothing startling. The antikvariats are showing 4 people looking for it. I think at least 2 of them are me. I tried the Technical Museum last time - nothing. I presume nothing from Audio 3?

Dear Gary,

coincidentally, I received an email from Audigo today. They say that this book is definitely sold out at all retailers, so they cancelled my order.
I will keep a close eye on Czech antiquarian bookshops, and if this book appears, I will buy it for you...

Dear Sarastro,

That would be more than kind. Please advise the price if it ever turns up. I will advise if I find it anywhere else. You must have the best chance of seeing it.

With appreciation.

Hello Sarastro,

It's been a while! Apparently a seller called Zizalinka has it for sale via TrihKnih. I'd be happy to buy it and pay for shipping.... but can't use the TrihKnih link due to the usual incompatible postcode problem and delivery outside of Czech Republic being difficult. I've checked out the Ceska posta rates and they'd be fine. If your offer still stands - I'm still interested!
Regards, Gary.
