Not sure of the connection, but the above Martin patent (1,627,191) looks very similar to the Horace Keane Type VI bomber. Possible designed by JV Martin and submitted by Horace Keane to the Air Service as a Type VI proposal.

Martin Reconnaissance Fighter

JV Martin went to court over the supposed collusion of the Manufacturers Aircraft Association and the US Air Service. He believed his and others patents were being shared with key manufacturers, while be denied contracts. One of the aircraft brought up during the congressional hearings on the collusion matter was the Martin Pursuit WP-1 and the Martin 1920 Reconnaissance Fighter. The fighter is provided below. The Martin WP-1 remained a design, however I'm not sure how far the reconnaissance aircraft made it to fruition.
