I know there already exists a topic on Taiwan unbuilt projects but what I would like to be discussed here is the preparation by several companies on each side of the Atlantic of fighter projects for the Free Chinese Air Force.

Pretty well known is the Gloster CXP-1001, but McDonnell, for instance, also produced two separate designs for Free China: the Model 34 and the Model 39. Both resulted from orders, they were not spontaneous proposals. I believe other companies were similarly commissioned to submit their own designs, but I haven't yet been able to identify them.

I must admit I know very little about that aspect of aviation history and would therefore appreciate any tips on the subject... Does anyone know something about that international 1946 call for proposals? Did it emanate from the U.S.? How many companies responded? Was there a winning design or was the whole project cancelled, and if so, for what reason?
