As it becomes clear that Europe and Canada will need to take on the running of NATO's main command on the continent, it will be necessary to find a significant figure who can deal effectively with the military and political challenges ahead as SACEUR.
As the principal military power in Europe France seems the best choice to provide such a person as both Germany and Britain have hollowed out their forces.
A dashing French officer with some vigour and style could put things on a decent footing.

They will never agree, they will call several meetings, form a committee, then another committee and make statements to the media, while the enemy and the financing remain undefined. Fortunately, there is no enemy interested in attacking seriously, at least on this continent.:):):)

The french can develop their philosophy even further that render the continent even more toxic to all right thinking empire builders. The sound emperors would know that building a wall is the first order of business, having anything to do with the place can only end in insanity as armies can get infected by po-mo~

In my opinion, it makes no sense to seriously consider the possibility of a Russian attack to retake the Soviet empire. Today's Russia lacks the logistical capabilities to achieve this. It would have serious recruitment problems, and an offensive of that size could not be hidden. The joint military budget of the countries of the European Union is four times that of Russia and the GDP is ten times higher.

It is incredible that they still require an investment of 800,000 million Euros to avoid something that could hardly happen.

Europe is the main customer of Russian hydrocarbons, through triangular operations, a business that has not even been suspended for the last three years, despite the application of sixteen rounds of economic sanctions.

If the Russian generals were crazy enough to try, perhaps they could occupy part of Eastern Europe between the Rhine, the North Sea and the Alps, and then what?

The war would have ruined them beyond recovery, money and gold would have already flown from the first shots, Europe's natural resources are not worth the expense and the main wealth, consisting of goods and services, would have already been transferred to safe places with a simple click.

Why would the Russians want a continent-museum inhabited by pensioners and a small number of young people who are difficult to recycle?

Just use AI. Inspirational leader chosen by a committe of professional bureaucrats with a main concern about filling all political checklists would probably be a great comedy material.

Most importantly, such ideas wouldn't even be popular in modern Russia. The general attitude of modern Russians is more nationalistic, than imperialistic. The ideas that "USSR fell because hard-working Russians were forced to pay for all those lazy republics, we don't want them back!" are quite popular around. The popular rhetoric is more about "uniting all Russian-speaking peoples in Greater Russia to save them from presecution" (and let's face it, there ARE presecution against Russian-speaking minority in many post-Soviet countries).

The imperialistic views are mostly projected in the idea of "having sphere of influence", not direct control. Earlier it was also "safety buffer from NATO" expansion.

Reagrds,
Are you serious? Kristine Berzina, a managing director at the German Marshal Fund of United States, is their "unbiased" source about Russia? And political journalist exile in London, oh yeah.

Fair enough so, let's just believe those proven to lie for opportunity? Lies, damn lies and Putinista's.......
Are you seriously thinking that asking peoples with obvious agenda would give you any real understanding of events? Try asking biased Democrat about Trump politics, then biased Republican about Biden's.

Which is, if anything is to happen, where compromise kicks in. As evidenced by the Euro crisis of 2009, and the 2021-2022 EU campaigns to buy covid-19 vaccines.
Under pressure everything becomes fluid. Look for something that works, not perfection.

Looking to European Politicians for that position, non of them has the charisma, like Churchill or de Gaulle.
There bureaucrats...
I fear that some in propaganda, ehh i mean Media department, will use AI to create a virtual charismatic military leader for this...

what could let to this:

I disagree. It should be a Pole, they are taking things the most seriously.

Against who? The people you are paying to heat your homes?

Nothing to see here................

Regards,
Indeed, from first words onwards.
That bastard, using war as a pretext to avoid elections and promote ethnocidal policies.
Atlantic council holds firm.

Was, before 2022.
But ironically, for all his international image, Putin is rather firmly in this camp.
