A design with a fascinating heritage and comical aesthetic, I was thrilled to see this as the only semi-submersibles from Asia that I knew about were some Japanese machines from WW2 and Naletova's project in Port Arthur.

Could it be the first semi-submersible of a Muslim nation? The Ottomans had actual submarines in the 1870s, but no halfway craft that I’m aware of in their or subsequent Turkish history before this point

It was built by a German an prooved to be fully submersible (involuntarily....), so I would say no
