When you want to send a message to a user there are a few options.
"Start conversation" creates a private communication between two or more people. Its the same a Private Message (PM) in the old forum.
Profile posts "write something" creates a public message that everyone can see on that user's profile. They are intended for more "social media" style status updates - you could put that you are reading a book, researching a topic, etc. It is supposed to foster a Facebook style "status page" community experience.
I'm not sure of how useful they'll be for us, we can turn them off if we want to. Please remember Profile Posts are PUBLIC!
