Is it technologically possible to build an F15 style fighter a decade earlier? I would have thought such a plane would be dependent on mature(ish) high thrust turbofans as well as aerodynamics sufficiently advanced to not need things like BLC or VG.Probably the most primitive (for want of a better word) plane that would fit the bill would be the Mirage F1, which entered service in 1973. I think the US could knock up something similar for sqn service by 1965 or so if they had the foresight.
