During the early 1960's,the Israeli Air Force issued an operational requirement for a high-flying,long-range reconnaissance platform to augment the existing platfoms such as the Vauture and the Mirage III.
After attempts to acquire the Mirage 4 and the Canberra failed, the IAI attempted to offer the air force an indigenous design which resembled the Lockheed U-2,with twin intakes located under the fuselage.
The project didn't advance beyond this official IAI artist impression.
