Hypothetical F-101E Model - will it post this time with pics????

Hi there:

I'm back, after a long hiatus. I think the last post I made was in regards to the F-101D, of which a friend obtained documentation while doing research at the Smithsonian. Though I haven't seen any documents on the F-101E, I've read that there was supposed to be a 2-seat version of the plane. I assumed a LOT and made it have some of the properties of the F-101B. It took me longer than expected to finish the plane; nevertheless, here it is in 1/144 scale.

Angelucci & Bowers: "The American Fighter" (pg 308 - 310): discusses at length the various models, describes the F-101B as a two-seater, as were the RF-101Bs of Canada, but merely refers to the F-101D & F-101E as 'designation not assigned'.
Francillon: "McDonnell Douglas Aircraft since 1920" (vol II, p149): 'F-101D & F-101E: these designations were reserved for projected versions which were to have been powered by two General Electric J79s. None were built. F-101F: produced alongside F-101B interceptors, the seventy nine F-101F-51-MCs to F-101F-121-MCs were operational & conversion trainers with dual controls.' ........ CF-101F: '... the RCAF received ten F-101Fs in 1961-62. ... these two-seat combat-capable trainers were designated CF-101Fs.'

You're correct - none were built, but the documentation says that at least the D was assigned. I sent four pages of the official documents to Overscan and he made them available on the forum.
