"Homefront" alternate history video

It's for the video game "Homefront." Originally it - like the remake of "Red Dawn" - was supposed to feature a Chinese invasion of the US, but the game makers - like the "Red Dawn" film makers - pussed out because they were afraid of irritating the Chinese government, and converted it into an incredibly unrealistic North Korean invasion of the US.

That has to be the most far fetched video game intro ever, including scifi games. By switching from China, a plausible world power, to North Korea a military and economic basket case you have to come up with a geopolitical scenario that is truly laughable.

They aren't the only ones guilty of laughable plots. The Operation Flashpoint games use completely ridiculous plots that actually do involve China. And the games are horrible. Homefront at least was amusing to play.

Did anyone else catch the mention of the Saudi-Iran War? I wonder if something similar to this video will be shown in the Red Dawn re-make that is now scheduled for release on November 2, 2012?

I understand that MGM is using CGI technology to modify the film, which is already completed, so that the villains are now North Korean instead of Chinese.

A review of the original cut of Red Dawn (2010) may be found here:

Ehmmm... "Crysis" (including now Crysis:Warhead and current Crysis:2)

(C-1) The US sends in spec-ops troops to the "Lyng-Shann" islands, currently "occupied" by North Korea after a "Pro-NK" take over, to locate and extract a scientific team of archeologists. Said Spec-Ops team is wearing very high tech "Nano-Suits" which can boost various aspects for short periods of time through various means by nanite injection. (Boost speed, strength of human, optical invisibility, and high protection armor) After insertion it appears the "archeology" team has found evidence of non-terrestrial technology on the islands the NK government wants to exploit. Worse yet it is revealed that the North Koreans have "nano-suit" technology also! Even worse yet we find out the aliens are becoming active, so the US commander on scene decides to nuke the island. (Just to be sure) Instead of killing the aliens (who have been showing all along that their technology tends towards the absorbtion of energy) we manage to wake ALL of them up. Though the Spec-Ops (player) manages to defeat the immediate enemy attacking the US task force, the story is left hanging as he and the other survivor head back to the island to collect their team leader who went back to confront the aliens on their own turf.

(C:W) Told from the perspective of one Sgt. "Pscyo" Sikes (Brit by the way) Side story where he and an NK officer and nano-suit squad via for the possession of an intact alien "exo-suit" that doesn't self destruct like the majority do in the first game.
Sikes wins and takes the prize back to the US task force. (Where it causes all sorts of problems during the fist game)

(C:2) The team leader from the original is now back in New York city which has been locked down due to an outbreak of an "alien" plauge. You play a Force Recon Marine who's unit was sent in to collect "Prophet" (code name) and a scientist but the Aliens kick the stuffing out of you and your unit and Prophets only 'choice' is to put YOU into the suit to save your life.

Kicker? The "aliens" have been "here" on Earth all along and the "nano-suit" technology is actually STOLEN from them during an earlier incedent at Tunguska! You manage to "win" in New York but that only sets you up for the NEXT battle as the game ends with you and Prophets "essence" still in the suit merging as you get a "call" from the NEXT link in the chain...

Great graphics and game play but YEESH the story here....

[Crysis 1, 1.5, 2]

Although it's silly arguing points about a game, some minor notes:
- The North Koreans had supposedly just stolen the tech and created inferior copies.
- The aliens were meant to be a race that had prior evolved to a space-faring stage, left the planet due to a cataclysm and is now returning because we as an intelligent species, meddling with a left-over outpost were recognised as an indicator that the planet was healthy enough to evolve intelligent life, cueing in the return of the original rulers of Earth.
- The Tunguska even was supposedly an alien probe / recon asset. The nano-technology and microbial / viral life on-board was then reverse engineered over a few decades.

I'm not saying it's not a silly story, but they have managed to at least explain how the back story took place.

i saw this "trailer" early 2011 and hab my laughter...
