Re: Hs 124

Thanks for your help.
I knew that the 124 and 127 would be difficult to find information/materials.
Thanks again
Jan

I've split this topic from this thread http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5885.msg167839.html#msg167839,
as in Manfred Griehl "Henschel Flugzeuge seit 1933" I've found an interesting information. Because the RLM was lukewarm about
the HS 124, the Henschel design office proposed to modify the aircraft into a single seat (!) heavy dive bomber. So the HS 124 V4
was modified by beefing up the wings, installing Jumo 210 engines and replacing the greenhouse canopy by a smaller one. After
the first tests during 1938 the development as a dive bomber was stopped due to vibrations, the aircraft was written off after a
landing accident on 18. November 1938. Two photos are shown with the new nose and canopy, although in the side view there's
still a rear cabin recognisable, but especially this photo is said to have been retouched.
Perhaps there are photos in other publications, too ? The tactical usefulness of such a big dive bomber without efficient means
of a rearward defence seem somewhat doubtful to me !

Excellent,

I already knew the second photo, but the first is absolutelly great. Thanks for sharing.

Made a quick attempt for a side view, with regards to the first photo (from the rear), there's no problem,
but I have doubts about the second photo. The nose seems to be ok, it looks like the V1 with the nose turret
faired over. But to my opinion, the rear cockpit is much lower, than the front cockpit, but the height over the
fuselage back seems to be the same as in the V1 or V2. Any opinions ?

A photo of the Henschel Hs 124 V2 with the glazed nose. Makes an interesting comparison with very similar photo of the full-nose version a few posts above.

I recall reading in "Histaviation" website about the Hs 124 being fitted with a rangefinder. I enclose a photo taken from Zeiss`s "Virtual Museum" of a possible candidate. Also a most curious turret sporting a 1m telemeter (rangefinder) from 1939.
