Hi again.
I started this a while ago. I've seen many models of the He280 as it was when tested, but only a couple were it was painted and decalled as it might of been if it had been put into service. This was my thinking when I started the profile.

However having read a little in David Myhra's Book "Secret Aircraft Designs Of The Third Reich" apparently two of the eight prototypes had a butterfly tail and wondered if anyone may shed some light on this?
For example, dimensions and angle of the tailplanes etc?

Any help truly appreciated.
Many thanks.
P

I found this two drawings in the internet. The website i don't remember.
Not much information, but i hope it's a little bit helpful. But the two drawings shown different butterfly tails with angle of 40° and 50°.

Thanks for the expert eye Justo.

What would I do without it?

Only one of the nine prototypes, it would seem.

Strangely enough, my Waffen Arsenal #108 devoted to the He 280 doesn't have a single drawing or photo of the vee-tailed prototype.

In "Heinkel Raketen- und Strahlflugzeuge" by Volker Koos, there is only a single small sketch of the He280 V8 with the v tail, indicting the fins were set at that point at 40 degrees up from vertical. fin span was not indicted, but appears to be slightly wider than the original twin tails. The book otherwise has a fair number of photos and drawings of your basic He280, both with HeS08s and unpowered gliders.

Progress report on both twin fin and swallow tail.

Antena mast needs adding to the twin fin....

Many thanks
P :)

Have to say looking at those profiles and the cutaway brought back many memories as we ramped up for Vol 2 of this book. What was so annoying is this was virtually ready for print just prior to the company going under!

I get the feeling that wing would have held it back.
