Interesting find overscan.

Description:

Up for auction is this really nice U.S.A.F. jet desk model. It was purchased at an estate sale here in town. The gentleman who collected these was a retired engineer from Edwards Air Force base. I do not know anything about these and his family didn't either.

The model is in perfect condition, no broken parts. It is made of heavy plastic, it seems like its all in one piece. The wing span is 7" and the length of the jet is 12".

This comes with its own stand. We have a neighbor who is a test pilot at Edwards Air Force base and he said all of the models are on their correct stands. The stand says "P.1127 V/STOL AIRCRAFT NORTHROP/ HAWKER NORTHROP NORAIR"

In July 1959 he went to Germany as a wing commander in charge of air defence operations at the sector control centre at Brockzetel, near Wilhelmshaven. Three years later he returned to the test pilot arena as a squadron commander at Boscombe Down, where he was responsible for fighter development and testing the early version of the Lightning supersonic interceptor and the Hawker P 1127, the forerunner to the Harrier jump jet.

Northrop was the original US buyer of the rights to build the P.1127 (Tony Chong's book give the Northrop/Norair project number for it) as a result of evaluating it during the US Army close-support competition that was shut down by the Key West Agreement. I know they tried to interest the USAF and USN but neither showed any interest at that time.
