Hi,

the Handley Page company designed a mid-wing twin engined tailless transport
and bomber aircraft project, fitted with looks like a canard and powered by two
pusher engines,As I understand from the article it can use as a transport or
attack aircraft, but sorry my French language is not good.

Hi Hesham,

It looks very similar to the aircraft used in Indiana Jones movie "Raider's of the lost Ark."
Fwing-1-.jpg

That's right Manicdee,

but the Handley page aircraft was a real patent.

The patent and the H.P.75 are both realizations of concepts proposed by Lachmann
beginning in 1936. A separate research department was setup in 1937 but no
constructor could be found for the proof of concept airframe, (numbered H-0222 in 1942,
designated H.P.75 in 1945), until July 1938. This was Dart Aircraft Ltd. of Dunstable, a builder
of sailplanes and ultra-lights founded by B. Zander and A.R. Weyl. The decision had been
taken in April 1939, during the delayed construction, to finish the aircraft without the 'rider-plane',
Lachmann's term for the small controllable fore-plane. The mostly complete aircraft wasn't
finally delivered until after the start of the war and engine runs started in October of 1939. The
first taxying runs were made in February 1940.

All this and more in the Tailless Research Aircraft (H.P.75) chapter of Handley Page Aircraft since 1907,
C.H. Barnes, 2nd Ed., Putnam 1987 (1995 reprint).

Very interesting stuff, joncarrfarrelly, thanks a lot!

The disign used in raiderers was based on the N1M-N1 Northern Grumman

In "Raiders of the lost ark" the Nazi 'Flying Wing' was created to reflect Hitler's advanced state of aeronautics
and was built using a Flying Wing prototype created by Northrop-Grumman.
It is based on a Northrop prototype design N1M and the N1M2.

The Northrop N1M and N1M-2 Flying wings.
Extremely rare color video of the first flight and following flights of the Northrop flying wing prototypes.
This film was shot in 1940

There was only ever one N1M which went through various changes.

p.s. now I've got the Ying Tong Song stuck in my head. ;)

Not sure if I misunderstood what you said there but the Raiders flying wing was built by Vickers from scratch. Supposed to have been a 5 engine design but the budget didn't stretch to that.

Regards,
Barry

... and it was from the mind of illustrator/designer Ron Cobb. He took
inspiration from the Northrop and other period aircraft for 'the look', but
it wasn't directly copied from any 'real' machine.
