Gloster Meteor first ever jet combat success in bringing down a V-1 missile.
There is a report on U-tube that a Me262 shot down a de Havilland Mosquito in July 1944.
I understood this was not successful in that the Mosquito was flown on to an allied airstrip/base and recovered.
Galland told me that the first German success was sometime in August?
can any one help please?

I don't have the book any longer but the Mosquito operational history noted that the first PR Mosquito made it back to a base in Italy. A second one from the same squadron was a definite kill in early August.

Edit: the web says both were from 540 Sqn

The effect of the Me 262 was to force the PR Mossies from Italy to operate with P-51 or P-38 escorts, shortening their range and reducing their usefulness.

I assume the first Meteor kill against a manned, manoeuvring opponent was over Korea?

Thank you for the reply, agreed First Meteor manned success would probably be Korean War.
But the first jet interception and downing of a V1 heralded the start of new age warfare; I thought this preceded the loss of the Mosquito in August?
