Among the first jet-powered proposals in Germany toward the end of the war was the Fw190TL, which was a HeS8 mounted in the nose in place of the BMW801. Until I'd gotten a copy of Justo Miranda's Focke Wulf Jet Fighters, a recent publication, I'd thought that it was just a cocktail napkin idea, because while it made a strange bit of sense.
However, it was a serious one, as Focke Wulf made a proof of concept model in the form of ducted fan mounted on the nose of a Fw44, and was able to prove the concept, as the aircraft actually flew, successfully flown by Hanna Reitsch.
While the book itself has the information, complete with 3 views, good luck trying to find much of anything on this on the internet.
Anyone aware of this project?
