French Naval Projects from Late 70's

Interesting...is the AR1200 based on the A69? The C1800 also looks as if it is a family member of the French frigates bought by Saudi Arabia(?)
 
Yes, you're right, AR1200 is based on Type A69 Aviso

I'll post an Aviso Garde Cote project profile tonight and some data refered to C1800 and AR1200.
 
AR 1200 Escort data

The hull is practically the same as used in the A 69 class

Displacement: 1230 tons at average load
Dimensions (m) : 86 x 9,9 x 2,88
Armament: 100 mm/55 cal gun, 2 x 20 mm cannons, 2 x quadruple launch containers for MM40 Exocet, eight-cell launcher for Crotale Naval, a 40 mm gun and 2 x twin ASW torpedo tubes.

Electronics fit is the same as for the C 1800 project, except that there is no provision for a VDS.

Propulsion is by four SEMT-Pielstick 12PA6 BTC diesels with a maximum continuous rating of 6000 hp, which drive two shafts.

Other variations on the A69 theme are the AR 73, the Type 11 and the Type 4B which differ from the original almost exclusively in their weapon fits. The AR-1200 is the project that differs most from the original.

Unfortunately, they are impossible to post individually and the specifications are deliberately obscured. However, those with even a passing knowledge will see that for example the Aviso70 is an A69 with the stern rearranged to accommodate a landing pad and the AR90 is a stretched A69 with non-integrated mast/funnel, pad and hanger. Furthermore, the Fregate FL2500 and Corvette CL100 look to be loosly based around the Georges Leygues Class.

Just for the record, the decision to build a new carrier was taken by President Giscard on September 23, 1980; but CdG as such (called Richelieu for a time) started in February 1986.
Why the six years, I never figured; probably to refine the design from PH75 to CdG, trippling the tonnage (or nearly) in passing.
