But the mergers in the french
aviation industry are truly a difficult theme in itself ...
In 1936, all the "pionneers" firms were merged into four huge groups (from a geographic logic)
- Nord
- Centre
- Sud-Ouest
- Sud Est
- Arsenal / SFECMAS was a small firm used as testbed by the governement (to compare its planes with the others)
Centre went bankrupt in 1949, leaving only 4 firms.
SFECMAS was former Arsenal, apublic firm funded in 1936 (VG-33 etc.) This was bought by Nord Aviation.
On the south were two constructors, one in the East, other in the West. They merged on 1st march 1957 to create Sud Aviation.
In 1970, Nord and Sud merged and created the SNIAS, or Aerospatiale, part of EADS since 2000...
Lovely pics!!!
