The history of the bullpup in France began long before the famous FAMAS which certainly marked its time but it was born under the constraint of the international conflicts. as assault rifle France had its misadventure during years from 1945 to 1970 with various programs and much expenditure, several prototypes were born but in vain, no weapon was retained. On this subject there were many questions and answers, the most common was always financial and the day when France finally adopted a rifle for its armies it was a very expensive rifle for its time the famous "clairon-bugle", a bullpup in a world full of similar weapons. However the bullpup principle is known in France since the semi-automatic rifle Faucon-Meunier of 6,5 mm developed by the lieutenant-colonel Armand-Frédéric Faucon in 1918 and the pistol-machine-gun patented by Henri Delacre in 1936 .Just after the end of the second world war France renewed with the bullpup and as of 1948 Vorgrimler and loefler of mauser proposed models. After a few years AME was closed in 1967 but the development of various assault rifle prototypes continued under the aegis of other companies until the advent of the FAMAS with its models and variants but that is another story.
