Re-reading old comic strips like Dan Dare and TV21 I am struck by the absence of a Royal Family in their future Britain.
In Dan Dare we are never told there is no monarch but names of various organisations and images of London suggest there is not one.
Alan Fennell in TV21 is more specific. Britain had a miliary dictatorship until it was liberated in 2047. When the new British PM sends a submarine to help a spy it is referred to as British Navy BN7.
Star Trek refers to Britain now and again but a monarch is never mentioned.
I suppose in the 60s it was assumed the monarchy was old hat.
