When Japan-China War had broken out in 1937 (1937), the Japanese army didn't have the bomber which invades to the Chinese continent interior and bombs. It's lack of the ability 93-shiki heavy bomber by which a military disposition was done then.
A new 97-shiki heavy bomber was tested, but it took a while for a military disposition.
Therefore 72 Fiat BR20 bombers was imported from Italy.
The purchase price was 60,000,000 yen (those days) including the motor and the replenishment part.
But the performance was lower than catalog data and was disliked by pilots because of the tendency of accident, failure and control difficulty.
But, defense armament was enriched, and only the point was welcomed.
When 97-shiki bomber was developed, and Fiat BR20 bomber retired from the service immediately by shortage of a replenishment part, so the period which was activity was short.
In addition, Germany rejected to export He111 to Japan at the day. Why?; ;D
