Quite a paper project so far with no real involvement from Sukhoi itself.

Just wonder how they gonna feed all that 4 engines at suborbital version and where all these intakes would fit.

That seems to be the problem of a lot of high performance projects... All of the power, none of the fuel capacity ::)

Makes it hard to take such things seriously.

They should go back and put two bigger engines, or even two of the same engines the Su-34 has now, I bet they can do it.

Maybe D-30s would work, or if they want to try a Western engine, F110s.

The 4-engine layout vaguely reminds of the kitbash Matej posted on here a while back:

The tail rocket reminds me of this beast from the anime series Stratos 4:

So well, FanStream team is finally here...

I am curious why it has four jet engines. Aircraft of this type does not need the performace like a fighter. (supersonic speed, short take off and landing...). Using the only two of them will cause reducing much dead weight in the upper atmosphere. In fact there cant be the big difference between start of the rocket engine during high subsonic or low supersonic speed.

Because you´d like more safety margin in case one engine fails? If you have just two engines, the other engine must be overpowered to fly the plane alone. If you have four smaller engines, then you can fly on three remaining engines, and remember to make emergency landing before some of the three also fail.

Not likely. Look at B777 and hundreds of other passanger planes. And in fact if it is the suborbital plane, then the most important thing you want to do is to reduce the weight. Once the atmosphere density is too low, then every airbreathing engine is the dead weight and you need the additional rocket fuel to move it to stratosphere and back.

We add some SSBJ Fanstream project pictures.
