As someone who followed the various published Western assessments of Soviet Military Power avidly throughout the Cold War I am all too aware of the risks in such evaluation.
As various Chinese capabilities are asserted regularly in a range of threads I think it would be timely to discuss the limitations of what we know about them.
Until recently China lagged well behind both Russia and the West in the sort of weapons it deployed. This is changing, but by how much?
China has not yet obtained advanced nuclear submarine technology. Even if it does, it will have to catch up with a vast legacy of experience in other navies.
Although China has bought Su27 Flankers it has not bought Su24 Fencers or Tu26 Backfires.
Similarly China has not got tanks equivalent to the M1 or Leopard 2.
