Douglas Aircraft WIG Artwork

I bought a packet of photos of R.G. Smith artwork and this Douglas Aircract Co. WIG (?) art piece was in the mix but with no info. A cursory look did not find any reference to anything similar to this artwork though there are patents for other distinctly different designs:
