The intention to fly an unmanned aircraft began with the work of Octave Détable, who imagined a special wing, composed of diverging cones, which ensure the stability of the aircraft by itself. In 1912, Max Boucher proposed to Détable to design an unmanned aircraft. Their first attempt in 1914, failed because the 30 hp engine was too weak, a more powerful engine was needed. Then, in 1915, Captain Boucher installed the Détables stabilizers on two Voisin planes and proved on July 2, 1917, that an unmanned aircraft was technically possible. The Boucher-Détable plane flew 1 km without a pilot at the Avord military base. Thus, Boucher just flew the first autonomous plane in the history of French aviation: a modified VOISIN 150 hp plane, its wings were shortened and was also equipped with a special wing to become a pilotless plane but to be more precise, it was an "automatic" plane, because the pilot can steer the plane, by pushing only a few buttons and the plane controlled its stability. On September 14, 1918,Boucher with his improved system flew his Voisin BN3 radio-controlled unmanned aircraft, over one hundred kilometers for 51 minutes, with the armistice, the research and tests are blocked until 1922. Boucher continued his experiments and associated the engineer Maurice Percheron in his work and on April 17, 1923, he succeeded in flying a Voisin plane equipped with gyroscopic stabilizers Sperry from the aerodrome of Villesauvage near Etampes, a real machine piloted by wireless telegraphy (TSF) . But this is another story and another era with other technical innovations in the field of guided aircraft.(https://artillerie.asso.fr/basart/article.php3?id_article=1683) - (https://www.france-pittoresque.com/spip.php?article14577) - (https://avionsanspilote.pagesperso-orange.fr/asp_180km.htm) - (https://www.science-et-vie.com/arti...-un-premier-drone-militaire-decolle-en-france).
