High-resolution interactive megapixel satellite imaging of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and the adjacent reclamation center ('boneyard').

+/- for zoom, arrow keys for navigation, etc. See if you can spot the Lockheed D-21 drones, F-105 Wild Weasel and other Cold War goodies.

Click HERE. If you reach the viewing edge, one mouse click should recalibrate the view from a better angle.

This is great, thanks for sharing. :)

Did you just start a new SP game? ;)
I think i found 2 D-21 already, see attached.

Ah :-[
Thanks for clarifying. I didn't go and check for them myself.

Some Ground Level views before it closed permanently to tours. With the tours, you were restricted to a moving bus, so the photos are decent but not my usual quality. If you ever need some spare parts...

In the image DSC_1507, the C-130 nearest the camera appears to have an extended nose. Is anything more known about this ?

cheers,
Robin.

That's a DC-130A (Navy Bu.No. 570497). It was one of three drone support aircraft that were being operated by Avtel through a US Navy contract. I used to see them at Mojave airport back in the 1980s and 1990s.

Sure, it's a DC-130A drone carrier/launcher, albeit stored without the pylons. Built as a GC-130A off the production line in the late 50's 57-0497 was the second of two (other being '496). Both served in Vietnam with SAC, launching Ryan's Model 147 reconnaissance drones. In the mid seventies, they were transferred to the Navy (the serial becoming 590496/570497) where they supported DT&E work, flying mainly from Mojave and Pt. Mugu, and other more exotic places. Here is an excellent page covering the subject.
