"In September 1947, a series of talks outlining the project took place between Dassault and the Bureau d'Etudes et Plans d'Etat Major. The French government's response to the proposal was positive; however no firm order for the aircraft was placed at this time, necessitating the project to proceed as a private venture. In December 1947, the detailed design work phase of the project, which had been allocated the design number M.D. (Marcel Dassault) 450, commenced. On 7 April 1948, the construction of a prototype began at the company's factory in Saint-Cloud, Paris." - Wikipedia.

Has anyone ever got to the first concept sketches of Dassault M.D.450 and would be able to present them?

Does anyone have more information on this variant of the Ouragan ? I couldn't find anything on the net.

This is a thread to discuss the Ouragan, its built and unbuilt variants.
These pictures shows an MD.450R or an MD.450-30L ?

As there was only one Ouragan with side air intakes, it can only be the MD.450-30L, at two different stages. As far as I understand, for this photo it is equipped for radionavigation tests with Sadir-Carpentier equipment in the nose.
 
Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Four Ouragan's were experimentally converted for operation from unprepared airstrips. Named Barougan, a contraction of the Arabic word Baroud (battle) and Ouragan (hurricane), these were fitted with double wheeled main landing gear units with low-pressure tires retracting into a ventral fairing and a tail braking parachute. The first Barougan, serialed 140, made its maiden flight on February 24, 1954, the above pictured second first flew October 23, 1954. Two further copies, serialed 223 and 225, flew in 1957, but further development was abandoned in 1958. Some of the aircraft were reverted to Ouragan standard."
 
Baroudeur + ouragan = Barougan (which really sounds silly - sounds like an elephant screaming loudly).
Didn't knew that "baroud" (as in "baroud d'honneur" and "barouder") came from an arabic word.
 
Kiffer ? how about that ! Since 1998 I know and use that word, I had no clue it was algerian.

It's another word from Algeria. Like Kasbah (House), Kiffer (to like) & more & more.
In truth, it is an Arabic word that designates black powder, often associated with the Fantasia of Algeria, a race where riders line up and charge by firing a baroud d'honneur at the end of the race and the Kasbah is a neighborhood characterized by an Arabo-Ottoman architectural style.-Google search.

In the French language, the word Kasbah is used to refer to a house, but in reality in the 1960s it was the name of the Arab neighborhood of Algiers.
 
Did the wing-tip pods improve matters by delaying vortices ??

( FWIW, with those real-neat proportions, sorta looks like Canberra's 'little cousin'...)

Dear Ajusto, thanks for sharing "Ouragan" stuff!

I like the Dassault postwar aircraft for their multiple logos and inscriptions. Company made a lot of efforts to ease the future aviation historians in recognition and identification of particular example of aircraft.
For example: "Ouragan" logo on the nose, engine type - at the middle, and exact modification name and construction number on the rudder. Other aircraft manufacturers just missed such a good chance to remain in the history :cool:
 
The most impressive thing is to know that Ouragans flew in El Salvador until 1998 (1) ! Only the T-33 can afford to flirt with the MD.450 !

I remember that, according to the same book, a Salvadoran MD-450 shot down a DC-3 drug plane.
