Re: Stinton joined-wing light aircraft of 1970s

O.K I lied, found some more info courtesy of Putnams British Civil Aircraft 1919-1972 vol 3. A.J.Jackson

Page 443.

"Stinton-Warren S.31-2: Single seat prototype aircraft, G-AYJC, c/n S.31-2/001, with Hall Warren wings of rhomboidal shape, powered by one 55 h.p Ardem 4C02 flat four and using detail designs by Sqn.Ldr D.Stinton in collaboration with the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield. Full scale mock-up was begun by Phoenix aircraft Ltd at Cranleigh, surrey in 1971, but construction of the prototype was abandoned as a result of wind tunnel tests."

Regards Bailey.

Re: Stinton joined-wing light aircraft of 1970s

I found this picture of a Hall-Warren S.31-3 model somewhere on the web, but have not been able to retrace my steps to find out where it came from.

It appears to have a different cockpit location and tricycle landing gear unlike the taildragger gear in the 3 view in the first post.

Re: Stinton joined-wing light aircraft of 1970s

There is information about the Phoenix Warren S31 in the Air Pictorial February 1969 issue according to this eBay listing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AIRCRAFT-PICTORIAL-FEBRUARY-1969-SHACKLETON-STORY-PHOENIX-HOME-BUILTS-/331241464469. Hopefully, someone here has access to that issue.

I've just had a quick look and most of the images posted ate within said publication - and have been posted on this forum previously, so I guess I could not really add anything new.

P.S. Have always loved the look of that swing wing fighter design. Would be great to see it camouflaged.
