That is weird, but it is a very tactically challenging target to deal with.

Edit: tactically challenging to physically breach and clear, for when you must absolutely confirm the death of whatever is inside.

It's about a decade old now. They built it just a couple of years after the Abbottabad raid. I'd guess it was an effort to baseline their SOF training against a known (mostly) successful operation. See if they could match or outdo the SEAL raid.
