In the coming days of rail guns and lasers, even poking ones nose over the horizon may be very unhealthy. Being able to vertically launch missiles may well be a necessity of life that is problematic with the rotor above. Not that this is a logical solution. I would not want to be the guy who does the hot refueling in the dark in a field, as Army helo's do on a regular basis. Right off the bat I can think of FOD issues, field of fire for the front gun, landing with a damaged landing gear, and problems with escape while on the ground.
Just rotate up instead of down and the idea works (assuming all the technical issues work).
