Believe me, there are many MUCH stranger albums (i.e., the first eight or so albums by The Residents).

Then again, Captain Lockheed and The Starfighters is great fun. Bob Calvert was a real character.....and a bit
difficult to deal with at times (see the Hawkwind biographies by Ian Abrahams and Carol Clerk).

Also, I saw Monster Magnet a few months ago. They opened with N.O.D. Space. That made me happy.
